Plain-English summary

We use customer-provided subscriber data to import, enrich, deduplicate, and report audience insights. We do not sell subscriber lists. We use trusted service providers to run the product, and customers can ask us to delete account or subscriber data by emailing hello@audience.is.

What audience.is does

audience.is helps publishers understand their audiences by importing subscriber data from email service providers or CSV files, enriching that data with professional and demographic signals, and presenting aggregate audience insights inside the product.

The product is designed for publisher intelligence, sponsorship planning, reporting, and related business workflows. It is not intended for children or for processing sensitive personal information such as health, financial, government ID, or precise location data.

Information we collect

Account information: name, email address, authentication data, team membership, role, and account settings.

Publication and integration information: property names, email service provider connection details, OAuth tokens or API credentials, list identifiers, sync status, and related setup metadata.

Subscriber information: email addresses, email hashes, ESP subscriber IDs, names when available, tags, custom fields, subscription status, subscription timestamps, and other list data provided by the connected source.

Enrichment information: inferred or matched professional attributes such as company, domain, job title, seniority, industry, confidence scores, enrichment status, and related metadata.

Usage and technical information: pages viewed, product actions, IP address, browser and device information, timestamps, logs, and security events.

Communications: messages sent to us through contact forms, support emails, or product feedback channels.

Enrichment data sources

Enrichment uses public sources only. We look up public professional profiles and pages associated with a subscriber email address, including public web search results, public company websites, public GitHub profiles, and Gravatar profiles.

Avatar and profile data is provided in part by Gravatar. Anyone can view or update what their public Gravatar profile shares at gravatar.com/profile.

We do not access private accounts, and we do not purchase personal data from data brokers. Individual enrichment results are only visible to the publisher whose list the subscriber belongs to.

How we use information

To provide, secure, operate, and improve audience.is.

To authenticate users, manage teams, support integrations, run imports, deduplicate subscribers, queue enrichment, and show audience analytics.

To communicate about accounts, imports, enrichment progress, support requests, product updates, and administrative notices.

To detect, prevent, and investigate abuse, unauthorized access, security incidents, and product reliability issues.

To create aggregate or deidentified insights that help publishers understand audience composition and product performance.

How we share information

We do not sell subscriber lists.

We share information with service providers that help us host the product, store data, send email, authenticate users, process integrations, and perform enrichment. These providers are allowed to use the information only to provide services to us.

We may share information with a customer team member or account administrator when it belongs to that team account.

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, to investigate abuse, or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.

We may publish or share aggregate or deidentified statistics that do not reasonably identify a specific subscriber, publication, or customer unless we have permission.

Email service provider credentials

When a customer connects an email service provider, we store the credentials, tokens, or list identifiers needed to import subscribers and maintain syncs.

Customers are responsible for authorizing only accounts and lists they have the right to connect. If a connection is removed, we stop using those credentials for future imports, subject to ordinary backups and logs.

Retention and deletion

We keep account, integration, subscriber, and enrichment data for as long as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, maintain security, and operate backups.

Customers can request deletion of their account, a team, a publication, a connected integration, or subscriber data by contacting hello@audience.is. We will respond within a reasonable time and may need to retain limited records where required for security, legal, fraud prevention, or accounting purposes.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards intended to protect information, including access controls, encrypted connections, credential handling controls, and internal authorization checks.

No internet service can be guaranteed perfectly secure. If we learn of a security incident that affects personal information, we will investigate and notify affected customers when required by law or when we believe notice is appropriate.

Customer responsibilities

Customers are responsible for having the rights, permissions, notices, and legal bases needed to provide subscriber data to audience.is and to use the resulting audience insights.

Customers should not upload sensitive personal information unless audience.is has agreed in writing to process that information.

Privacy rights and requests

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, or object to certain uses of personal information.

If you are a subscriber of one of our customers, we may need to forward your request to that customer or ask you to contact them directly because they control the list relationship.

To make a privacy request, email hello@audience.is. We may ask for information needed to verify and process the request.

International users

audience.is is operated from the United States. If you use the service from outside the United States, information may be processed in the United States and other locations where we or our service providers operate.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product, business, or legal requirements change. If changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify customers, such as posting a notice in the product or sending an email.

We will route privacy and deletion requests to the right person.
